George registered as a Hypnotherapist

Someone posted a link into their Facebook account of an unusual character that registered onto a hypnotherapists register.

George is a cat and a North East England journalist registered him onto 3-USA and 3-UK hypnotherapy websites.  As a hypnotherapist … I have to say I find it quite funny …

Which authorizing bodies

The 3-UK bodies that Chris Jackson, presenter of BBC programme Inside Out (in the North East and Cumbria division) registered poor unsuspecting George onto are:

• the British Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming (BBNLP)
• The United Fellowship of Hypnotherapists (UFH)
• The Professional Hypnotherapy Practitioner Association (PHPA)

They each accepted a certificate from the non-existent Society of Certified Advanced Mind Therapists as proof of George’s credentials.

It follows a similar investigation by an American clinical psychologist.

Summary

Its definitely a funny story, but has an underpinning message, that indicates its a good idea to take advantage of any free consultations you can obtain with the therapist beforehand, and have an army of questions.  Do a survey, and then chose the one that you feel is most harmonious with you.

Check carefully

Its a very good idea to call round a few therapists that either live in your area, or have something about their website or content that particularly catches your attention or gives you a sense of feeling you’d be comfortable working with them to reslove an unwanted issue  The wider their variety of key skills the better, because this should enable a quicker route to your solution and the better equipped you’ll finish your sessions, walking away with a raft of techniques you can learn to apply in other areas of life.

My authorizing bodies

Fortunately none of the examining bodies that I trained or registered with are mentioned here … The GHR requires a copy of your qualification which has to be one of their recognized trainings.  My trainers Cherith Powell and Greg Forde at the Atkinson Ball College of Hypnotherapy are very old school and stringent is Cherith’s middle name … My NLP Training took place with Richard Bandler (one of the co-founders of NLP), Paul McKenna and Michael Breen.  Their professional body – Pure NLP – is run by John and Kathleen La Valle, themselves NLP trainers who work alongside Bandler. My Life Coaching was taken through Newcastle College an institution in its own right.

Energy Remedies

The AAMET that monitors Tapping in the UK (EFT + MTT) dictates that you cannot register with them until you have taken and passed Level 2 – so if you’re looking for someone to tap with (a very powerful technique of itself) then look for someone registered there, because unless people are on there they are not qualified to work with you.  And finally Psych-K is so particular, even around the name we call ourselves, so as a qualified Advanced Facilitator I can guide you through a variety of those techniques with ease. Additionally I keep up my CPD (Continued Professional Development) through continued supervision, keeping updated with developments in the field and having regular contact with professional colleagues.

George’s registration does make the industry look a bit silly but also makes a good point.   As a professional I have to say you should take care in who you chose to work with, because unfortunately there are unscrupulous people in every walk of life, driven by the wrong motives.  However I don’t think it takes long to suss someone, but here are a couple of tips to be going on with:

• Their interest should lie in you and what they can do to help you in the quickest timescale.
• Nor should they be overly concerned with how your issue came about, because that is just pure nosiness.

Instead you want to look for someone who has your best interests at heart.

And finally I couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if someone had tried to book a session with George.  Miaow!
