A Medical Diagnosis Helps Enormously

I had an interesting conversation with a fellow-practitioner (written Sept 2011) where we were in discussion over a client that had come to our mutual attention.  This person refuses to visit the doctor in order to identify her symptoms and obtain a medical diagnosis.

Is A Medical Diagnosis Important To You?

It brought to mind someone I met while training in META-Medicine where students volunteered to work on issues with each other to develop a better understanding of the identification process.  This was mostly followed up by helping to clear the root causes.

But there was one lady who just kept popping back into Skype again and again ask for more help when her anxiety and depression kicked in.   But all we wound up doing was addressing some of it.   Time and again she was asked to make a doctor’s appointment to obtain a correct diagnosis, in order to allow more a more specific and focused attenion.

But she just wouldn’t and things trailed away because there was part of her that just didn’t want to go through with it. And it doesn’t help a META-Medicine practitioner at all because a medical diagnosis is where we start.

Without it – we can end up working session after session – not quite getting there.

But today it became quite clear!

A person who won’t comply is not committed to the process of getting themselves well again … and the reasons are usually due to what we call secondary gains.   Bizarre as it may seem a person is getting more benefit from being unwell – than they subconsciously believe they will by being well.

Secondary Gains

These come from someone getting far more out of being unwell, than they previously had in wellness, for example:

  • Get more love and attention – than did when well
  • Taking less responsibility – therefore someone else can deal with life’s ‘problems’
  • Fearful of standing on own two feet again – maybe they found life hard before
  • Resistant to own recovery – due to ‘giving-up’ or ‘losing hope’
  • Flying under the radar – by not having to be accountable as they have a good excuse not to participate fully in life
  • People make allowances – because they require special treatment

Does this resonate with you, someone you know or someone you’ve come across, perhaps it fits.  And if not please tell me about it as it’s always good to hear other views. Maybe my view sounds harsh, so before you kick my butt to kingdom come, let me say that it’s not their fault, we just haven’t known any better until now.

Ultimately, I hope this explains the importance of having a full commitment to your recovery?  When using the extensive tools we draw from with the META-Medicine model its imperiative to have a medical doctors diagnosis to begin with.

Traditional medicine is fantastic at diagnosis, surgery and paving the way with new technological breakthroughs and we shouldn’t be afraid to see a doctor, nor dismiss them at the cost of an overall recovery.

  1. Definitely a very good article.
    People: Consider that last sentence…
“Traditional medicine is fantastic at diagnosis, surgery and paving the way with new technological breakthroughs and we shouldn’t be afraid to see a doctor, nor dismiss them at the cost of an overall recovery.”

  2. Thank you Tom … with the META-Medicine model of treatment its highly important to work from someone’s medical diagnosis, because its a great starting point in helping identify what type of conflict shock created the condition in the body in the first place.
