Nutrition is often pointed at when it comes to disease. We’ve had the message drummed home that certain foods are more beneficial when it comes to fighting cancer and a number of other major life-threatening diseases that are never far from the lips of the experts when it comes to the subject of preventative health topics, such as diet.
According to Wikipedia:
Although oxidation reactions are crucial for life, they can also be damaging; plants and animals maintain complex systems of multiple types of antioxidants, such as glutathione, vitamin C, and vitamin E as well as enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and various peroxidases. Low levels of antioxidants, or inhibition of the antioxidant enzymes, cause oxidative stress and may damage or kill cells.
As oxidative stress appears to be an important part of many human diseases, the use of antioxidants in pharmacology is intensively studied, particularly as treatments for stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. However, it is unknown whether oxidative stress is the cause or the consequence of disease.
They go on to say:
Antioxidants are widely used as ingredients in dietary supplements and have been investigated for the prevention of diseases such as cancer, coronary heart disease and even altitude sickness.
Although initial studies suggested that antioxidant supplements might promote health, later large clinical trials did not detect any benefit and suggested instead that excess supplementation is harmful.
In addition to these uses of natural antioxidants in medicine, these compounds have many industrial uses, such as preservatives in food and cosmetics and preventing the degradation of rubber and gasoline.
It’s both complex and perplexing when it comes to knowing the best ways to proceed when it comes to maintaining your own health.
Interview with Dr Nicholas Gonzalez
The sensitivity of an individuals dietary requirements was further highlighted when I listened to the call that kicked-off the Kevin Gianni (and Nick Ortner) series called the Healing Cancer World Summit. It was an interview with Dr Nicholas Gonzalez who during a postgraduate immunology fellowship under Dr. Robert A. Good, considered the father of modern immunology, completed a research study evaluating an aggressive nutritional therapy in the treatment of advanced cancer.
Since 1987, Dr. Gonzalez has been in private practice in New York City, treating patients diagnosed with cancer and other serious degenerative illnesses.

The most interesting factor that came over was in describing different types of patients determined by lifestyle and metabolism, alert Dr Gonzalez practice to prescribe different diets, i.e. he mentioned that a Type A person who is very busy and always on the go will have a very acidic body-system and would benefit from the introduction of more alkaline foods.
Whereas someone with a slower pace, already has quite an alkaline system and therefore probably needs more acidic foods adding to their programme, like red meat and fish. And this is why they have a wide range of treatments that are tailored to the individual.
Below is a list of information that describes how his treatments work (taken from his website):
Diet: The prescribed diets are quite variable, and can range from nearly vegetarian to diets requiring red meat 2-3 times a day. Each patient receives individualized dietary recommendations. All the diets, however, require that the patient consume primarily organic foods, and avoid synthetic and refined foods such as white flour and white sugar. (A more detailed explanation of the rationale behind the diets can be found in the interview from Clinical Pearls News).
Supplements: Like the diets, the supplement protocols are individualized for each patient, depending on their health problems and biochemical makeup. The prescribed supplements include a variety of vitamins, minerals, trace elements, anti-oxidants, animal glandular concentrates and other food concentrates.
Pancreas Product (For Cancer Patients): The main anti-cancer supplement is a specially manufactured pancreas product (containing naturally occurring enzymes) made from pig pancreas. Click here to read more about the rationale for this. Cancer patients on this regimen take up to 45 grams of pancreas product a day, taken orally and spread throughout the day.
If you want to learn more about the Healing Cancer World Summit and hear Dr Gonzalez (alongside a range of other specialists in Cancer Healing) as am sure you’ll agree this is a vast topic and there are lots of aspects to healing the body from serious disease, and this provides a holistic approach in the true sense.
